August 5 to– September 12, 2004
Arkad Foundation Gallery, Seravezza (LU)

The project
In 2003, the ARKAD Foundation developed the Cantiere d'Arte: Marble and Contemporary Art Project, in order to take a new look at sculpture's most noble material, marble.
Proposed to the Toscana Region's Regional Network for Contemporary Art, TRAart, Cantiere d'Arte was set up in a reduced dimension and launched in 2004 with workshops and the “Scarto come materia (Scrap As Material) ” Exhibition and in 2006 with the Itineraries in Sculpture Symposium.

The concept
The marble working production chain produces a variety of interesting scrap material that can be used for the creation of works of art of its own. The peculiar sizes, shapes, and production methods all give these materials “personality” that makes them unique and suggests further artistic development.

Ten artists of various age, nationality (Italian, French, Swedish, and Chinese) and discipline (painters, sculptors, architects) created works of art made with scrap material together with Cynthia Sah and Nicolas Bertoux.

The exhibition was the result of a workshop (see Activities - Workshops) that featured the participation of all the artists selected.

Success
The exhibition was rewarded with public appreciation; visitors were intrigued by both the originality of the works and the richness of the setting.

PARTICIPATING ARTISTS
Giovanna Ambrogi (Italy), Nicolas Bertoux ( France), Emanuela Camacci (Italy), Silvano Cattai (Italy), Sergio Cervietti (Italy), Sylvestre Gauvrit (France), Andrea Gerali (Italy), Franco Martera (Italy), Cynthia Sah (China), Pal Svensson (Sweden)
